[Daily M'Cheyne Devotional] Jan 11: Answering the Call

Readings: Genesis 12, Matthew 11, Nehemiah 1, Acts 11

To start something new, we often have to say goodbye to the familiar. Today's M'Cheyne reading (January 11th) invites us on a journey of discipleship defined by three movements: Leaving, Weeping, and Resting.

1. Genesis 12: The Courage to Leave (Faith)

God’s call to Abram was clear: "Go from your country... to the land I will show you." Faith is the courage to leave your Comfort Zone for God’s promise. God uses those who are willing to step into the unknown to be a blessing to the world.

2. Nehemiah 1: Tears for the Ruins (Empathy)

Nehemiah lived in the comfort of a palace, but his heart broke when he heard the walls of Jerusalem were broken down. True calling begins not with ambition, but with empathy. When the pain of others becomes your own tears, God begins the work of rebuilding.

3. Acts 11: Crossing Boundaries (Expansion)

Peter crossed cultural boundaries to share the Gospel with Gentiles. When we acknowledge that God is working outside our limited boxes, the Gospel expands explosively.

4. Matthew 11: Rest in the Mission (Grace)

Does this mission feel heavy? Jesus doesn’t say, "Work harder." He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary... and I will give you rest." The secret to sustaining your calling is not your strength, but taking His yoke.

🙏 Prayer

"Lord, give me the courage to leave what is comfortable for what is promised. Let my heart break for what breaks Yours, but let my soul find rest in Your presence. I take Your yoke upon me today. Amen."
